Almer Seden Atwood, Sr., turned 101 on Wednesday, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2013. He was a native of Saltville, VA and was the son of the late John and Sarah Atwood. He was a charter member and the last elder charter member of Portsmouth Christian Church and a life member of Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge #178. He retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard and ILA Norfolk. He is predeceased by his wife, Velma Gladys Atwood; two sons, Claude D. Atwood and Walter W. Atwood; and a grandson, Anthony Wayne Atwood.

He is survived by a daughter, Mary A. Logan of Williamsburg, VA; two sons, Almer S. Atwood, Jr and wife Susie of Chesapeake and John R. Atwood, Sr. and wife Marsha of Windsor, VA; two daughter-in-laws, Sherry Atwood of Carrsville, VA and Donna Atwood of Bumpass, VA; twelve grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 3 P.M. Tuesday, September 24, at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel by the Rev. Richard A. Laslo. Burial will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
