Ann Pauline Melsness Arthur, 95, widow of retired Lt. Col. Ambrose C. Arthur, died Thursday, June 6, 2013.
The Guest Book is expired.
She was born on January 19, 1918 to the late Einar and Christine Melsness on a farm in northern Minnesota where she spent her childhood years. As a young adult, she moved to the west coast to work and it was during that time that she met her husband.
After their marriage in 1948, she traveled the world as a military wife until her husband's retirement in 1962. She was unexpectedly widowed shortly afterwards and devoted the following years to raising her two children. She lived independently in Newport News until failing health caused her to move to Spring Arbor in Williamsburg where she resided for the last six years.
Besides her parents and husband, Ann was preceded in death by her two brothers. She is survived by her son, John Arthur (Diana) of Midlothian, and her daughter, Christine White (Hank) of Williamsburg. She is also survived by four grandchildren of whom she was very proud and one great-grandson. She was looking forward to the birth of her second great-grandchild this summer. Ann is also survived by several nieces and nephews who will miss their "Auntie Ann."
The family wishes to thank Spring Arbor of Williamsburg for the care they gave Ann during her time there and Hospice Community Care for the comfort and support they provided in the last few months of her life.
The family will gather privately to remember and honor her life. Burial, with graveside service, will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are by Weymouth Funeral Home.
