He was an active and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and dedicated his life to living by its principles. Because of his enthusiasm and passion for the gospel he held several important church leadership positions throughout his life. In 1994 he was called to be the president of the Newport News Stake and served in that capacity for nine years. He was much loved by members of the LDS church in the area for his compassion and his commitment to serving the Lord.
He had a long career in the U.S. Army that included service in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was proud to serve his country and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel at Ft. Eustis, VA. It was his wish to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery so that he might forever be alongside those fellow comrades that gave their lives in order to protect and maintain the freedoms that we enjoy.
He is survived by his eternal companion, Fran, his four children, Lisa, Steven, Kristin, Erin, 11 grandchildren: Daniel, Kalie, Emma, Steven Jr., Macy, Nathan, Jacob, Hannah, Brandon, Johnny and Alex; two of his sisters, Jerry and Linda; and numerous other extended family members.
The funeral will be held at the Williamsburg building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
