Barbara R. Weekes, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, October 17th. Born in Norristown, PA., as a child she lived in South America and around the USA before attending Concordia College and graduating from Hofstra University. She was an editor at Parent's Magazine in New York City before becoming an amazing wife, mother and friend. She raised her family on the beautiful North Shore of Long Island where she loved and enjoyed the beaches and the woods of Lloyd Neck for more than 30 years.
The Guest Book is expired.
Barbara was an active member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Williamsburg, VA where she and her husband retired in 1997. She was a Stephen Minister, as well as being in the choir, and baking bread for communion. Barbara was instrumental in rejuvenating the gardening club at Governor's Land, where she served as president for two years and saw the club grow astronomically. She was a garden tour leader in Colonial Williamsburg, an ESL tutor, enjoyed bible study and book clubs.
Barbara also enjoyed reading, swimming, tennis, boating, skiing and, turned out to be, a very competitive golfer later in life, winning the Women's Member Guest Tournament at Governor's Land in 2004. She was a wonderful cook, baker and loved to entertain.
Preceded in death by her parents Robert C. and Ethel U. Ried. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 53 years, Lester, her three children, Pamela, Lester IV, Stephanie and their spouses, along with five cherished grandchildren, Cassidy, Lester V, Brooke, Cole and Chase along with her brother Dr. Robert C. Ried and family.
A funeral service will be conducted by Pastor John Jurik Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel located in the Memorial Cemetery of St John's Church in Laurel Hollow, burial to follow. A Memorial Service in Williamsburg, VA will be held at a later date.
