Donald "Ray" Gorby died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011. He was 74 years old.

He was born in Paris, Pa., and grew up in Toronto, Ohio. He joined the Army when he was 18 years old. After 3 years in the Army, he married Marylou Hill and moved to California. From California he moved to Virginia, where he spent the remaining part of his life.
Mr. Gorby spent 54 years as a barber and 40 years barbering in Williamsburg. While in Virginia he joined the Air National Guard, where he served for 13 years.
He enjoyed riding his Harley in his spare time and made many trips on it, including trips to Sturgis, S.D, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Daytona Beach, Fla. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren and working out in his garage.
Mr. Gorby is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marylou Gorby of Toano; his son, Kenneth D. Gorby of Williamsburg; his daughter, Deborah L. Cole and husband, Bruce C. Cole; two grandchildren, Brittany and Brandon Cole of Toano; and his daughter, Lisa V. Gorby of Williamsburg.
God came and took an angel. He had a heart of gold and will be truly missed by his family and friends.
Friends will be received at Bucktrout Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 27, from 6 to 9 p.m. with a celebration of life service at 7 p.m.
