Obituary Condolences

Edmonia Cox Lewis, 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 6, 2013, in Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center.
Edmonia was a member of First Baptist Church, Williamsburg, where she served faithfully until her health declined. She served as Altar Guild Secretary, History Ministry Treasurer, Chair of the Steward Ministry, Church Nurse, the Pastor's Aide Ministry and a member of the Diaconate Ministry. She retired as a registered nurse from Williamsburg Community Hospital, after many years of service. She served, as a volunteer for many years, with the American Red Cross supporting local blood drives and many years as a volunteer Voter Registrar.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Nelson "Allen" Lewis, her parents, Lue and Joseph Cox, her sisters, Dorothy Meekins, Martha Bartlett, Lue Berta Turner, Wyoma Thompson and Purley Taylor and her brother, William Cox, Sr. She is survived by her sisters, Hattie Cox, of Fredericksburg and Pauline Carrington, of Lynchburg; her sister-in-law, Virginia Cox, of Toano; her special great-nieces, Belinda Taswell (Kenneth), Tracie Smart (Carlos) and Sara Mitchell (Marklin); her special great-nephew, Clay Hargrave; her nieces, nephews and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
A funeral service, celebrating the life she lived, will be held 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2013, in Historic First Baptist Church, 727 Scotland Street, Williamsburg, Virginia, with the Rev. Dr. Reginald F. Davis and Dr. Thomas T. Shields officiating. Interment will follow in the Cedar Gove Cemetery, 809 South Henry Street, Williamsburg, Virginia 23185. A repast will be held in the church fellowship hall following the interment. Family and friends will assemble at 138 W. Semple Road, Williamsburg, Virginia 23185 by noon on Monday. Mrs. Lewis may be viewed only in the church on Monday, beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the hour of her service.
