Elmer Donald "Donnie" Trotter Obituary
Elmer Donald "Donnie" Trotter, 84, passed away April 5, 2013 at the Williamsburg Hospice House with his daughter Donna by his side. He is preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie M. Trotter; parents, Peter D. and Grace Messick Trotter; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Harlan.
Donnie graduated from Virginia Tech's School of Engineering and was a big fan of Hokie football and basketball. Many of his years were spent at Fort Eustis, working at the Combat Development Transportation.
He was member and a past president of the Denbigh Lions Club, Hampton Roads Bowling Assosication, and belonged to the Williamsburg Country Club. Donnie was an avid charter member of the Asbury United Methodist Church and former chairman of its building committee. He also ran Colonial Virginia Tournaments for years and then passed it on to his son, Michael.
Donnie loved his family dearly and is survived by his children, Michael C. Trotter (Dee), Donna Lynn Trotter of Williamsburg, Thomas S. Trotter (Marianne) of Christiansburg, Susan T. Brown of Raleigh, NC; sister, Rosemary Harlan of Yorktown; nephews, Don, Robert, and Peter Harlan; stepson, Steven Morgan (Rachel); stepdaughter, Donna M. Bonnie; grandchildren, Brandy Buchanan, Sarah Buchanan Montgomery (Seth), Michelle Trotter Hodges (Blake), Chris Trotter, Tommy (Jennifer) and Kelly Trotter, Daniel Harris, Michael Brown (Jade), and Jessica Brown, Colby and Andrew Bonine, and Jenna Morgan; and 7 great-grandchildren: Aiden, Liam and Treslyn Harter, Mark and Price Hodges, Tatem Trotter, and Brayden Burkes.
The family wishes to thank Morningside, where he lived for the past year, and the Hospice House of Williamsburg for their care and support.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg. Donations may be made to the Hospice House of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Pky, Williamsburg, 23188, or a favorite .
