F. Richard Splan Obituary
F. Richard Splan of Williamsburg died on May 10, 2013 at the age of 87.
Dick was born, raised and educated in Randolph Ma. Shortly after graduating from Stetson High School in 1943 he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served as a member of the 1st Cavalry Division in the Philippines Islands and Japan, and was discharged as a technical sergeant in 1946.
After his military service, Dick entered the University of Pennsylvania, was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, and graduated from the Wharton School in 1950.
In 1955 Dick marries Connie Coleman and a few years later they moved to Bergen County, N.J. For the next 25 years they raised six children and Dick served in the New York hospital industry as a labor relations executive and as a hospital administrator. In 1987 Connie and Dick retired, moving to Williamsburg to begin a long and happy retirement traveling, visiting their children and grandchildren, and making many friends in Williamsburg. Dick also served as a volunteer for the National Parks Service and for Faith in Action.
After Connie's death in 2010 Dick remained in Williamsburg, enjoying the company of his friends until his death. He is survived by his children: Rich, Connie, Sue, Judy, Chris and Nancy; their spouses; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Donations may be made in Dick's memory to Williamsburg Regional Library or Hospice House of Williamsburg.
