Obituary Condolences

Retired Navy commander Floyd Holloway, Jr., 84, of Venice, Fl, died on June 24, 2013. Services will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Yorktown at a later date.
Born in Yorktown to Floyd and Jennie Holloway. he was a graduate of St. Christopher's in Richmond and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
Floyd was a formidable collegiate athlete competing in football, wrestling and lacrosse. Upon graduation he entered the submarine service and commanded a number of vessels.
He retired as a commander in 1973 from his final duty station in Pearl Harbor. Floyd then worked in the maritime industry in Tidewater after his Naval career.
An avid tennis player, he played frequently with friends in Venice until months before his passing. Floyd gave generously to charities, including those overseeing the poor.
He is survived by his two sons, Charles and Franklin and his granddaughter Emma. He is predeceased by his second wife Helen Holloway.
