Helen Reid Poovey Yelton, 96, of Southern Shores, NC, loving wife, mother and friend, passed away on Feb. 13, 2013.

She is the last of seven children born to Lloyd W. and Nancy Reid Poovey of Hickory, N.C. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Thad Gold Yelton. She is survived by two daughters: Emily Ausband and husband, Frank, of Southern Shores, N.C., and Nancy Brown and husband, Phillip Jr., of Williamsburg. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Phillip III, Taylor and Helen Elizabeth "Libbie" Brown, Thad and Joseph Ausband, Alexander LeFevre and his wife, Hillary; and twin great-grandchildren, Reid Andrews and Grant Alexander.
Mrs. Yelton graduated from Hickory High School, attended Appalachian State University and completed business school in Charlotte, N.C. She moved to Richmond with her husband in 1946 where they lived until retirement. Helen was active in many clubs and organizations. Her proudest memberships were Daughters of the American Revolution, Children of the Confederacy, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Tuckahoe Woman's Club, and Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church. Later, the family moved to Williamsburg, and eventually to Williamsburg Landing retirement community.
We give tribute to this Southern lady of faith, wisdom, grace, goodwill and humor. There will be a committal service at Westhampton Memorial Park in Richmond on Feb. 18 at 1:30 p.m. A memorial service on Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. will be held at All Saints' Episcopal Church in Southern Shores, officiated by Father Tom Wilson, followed by a reception at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Ausband, 177 Chicahauk Trail in Southern Shores.
