Jean Ohme Kircheis was born September 18, 1919 in Cushing, Iowa, population 280. She and her beloved John Kircheis personified the American Dream raising two wonderful daughters and exploring the world together. She was comfortable in any circle, from a small Iowa kitchen to the Queen's Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. In any setting she was loved by all she met. She made her home in Williamsburg in 1979 after moving from Cushing to Des Moines, St. Louis, Albany, Greenwich, and London. Whenever anyone needed help, she gave it gladly in a way to avoid embarrassing the recipient. She served as the immutable rock of her family for decades, leaving daughters Susan Long and Julia Clark; grandchildren, Brian, Lara, and Kevin Long, Nick and Karen Clark, and namesake Jean Gilbert; and great-grandchildren, Rebekka Long, Logan and Austin Gilbert. She was much loved and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM on Thursday, October 18 at Williamsburg Landing.
