NEWPORT NEWS - On Thursday, March 6, 2014, our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Jeanne W. King, went home to be with her Father in Heaven after a courageous battle with cancer. A native of Portsmouth, Va., she was a Williamsburg resident for 16 years where she taught as a teacher in the Williamsburg/James City County School Systems. A woman of devout faith, Jeanne attended Wellspring United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Old Dominion University where she earned Masters Degrees in Education and Business. Jeanne had a passion for assisting special needs students with vocational and work force skills and worked as an adjunct faculty member at the College of William and Mary where she focused on teaching work force skills to adults with special needs. She was also an active sponsor of numerous clubs and activities including FBLA and Key Club. Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents, Albert M. and Marion F. Wiggins. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 43 years, Donald V. King; children, Laura K. Manno and Donald V. King, Jr.; five grandchildren, Kylie King, Alexis King, Lorenzo Manno, Sydney King, and Ashley King; and stepson, Brice King. The family would like to recognize Duke University Cancer Center, the doctors and nurses at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, the staff at Comfort Keepers, as well as friends and family for their care, love, and support during their time of need. On Tuesday, March 11 a visitation will be held at Peninsula Funeral Home from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with a funeral service to take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 12 at 11 a.m. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Project SEARCH at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center at 100 Sentara Circle, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
