WILLIAMSBURG - Joseph Robert Van Bergen, 93, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 7, 2014. He was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and was a graduate of Rutgers University and a veteran of World War II. Joseph resided in Cranford, New Jersey and worked for the Colgate-Palmolive Company in New York City for 30 years where he managed the company's investment portfolio. He was a member of the Elizabeth, New Jersey chapter of the Knights of Columbus. Joseph became a resident of Williamsburg, Virginia 21 years ago. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Ellen, his daughter Susan of Boca Raton, Florida, and her children Will and Ellie, and his son Peter of Williamsburg and his wife Jamie and their children Elizabeth, Luke and John. A funeral mass will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Cranford, New Jersey on Saturday, May 10 at 9:30 AM. Interment service will follow at St. Gertrude's Cemetery in Woodbridge, New Jersey. Memorial contributions may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
