Larry Murphy, 72, of Williamsburg VA, passed away November 21st after a lengthy illness.

Born in Richmond IN in 1941, Larry earned a BS in Industrial Engineering from General Motors Institute in1964. He began a 30 year career as an executive at IBM where he retired in 1996. After another 10 years of consulting with IBM, he focused his retirement on giving back to the community he loved and traveling with his beautiful bride of 53 years, Barbara.
Larry was an avid Kiwanian and has served as president of the Williamsburg Kiwanis Club. He was a consistent longtime volunteer with the Head Start program where he enjoyed volunteering regularly to encourage reading in Pre K children throughout the area.
He was a member of the board of directors and treasurer of the Williamsburg/James City County Community Action Agency where he worked to improve the lives of children and families throughout the area. As president and board member on various home owners associations in the Williamsburg area he was able to lend his expertise to the communities in which he lived. Larry is a member of the Williamsburg United Methodist Church.
Larry was preceded in death by his son Brian Murphy, and is survived by his wife Barbara Murphy, and sons Kevin Murphy, Sean Murphy, and Colin Murphy and their families, as well as his brother Robert Murphy and sister Nancy Rouse. He has eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Williamsburg Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown RD Williamsburg, VA 23185 at 3:00 PM, December 2nd.
