Oscar Jennings Hill Jr., 87, of Williamsburg, Virginia died on October 5, 2012 at Dominion Village of Williamsburg. He was born in Salisbury, North Carolina on June 26, 1925. Jennings was a devout Christian and dedicated his life to his faith, his family, and his love of flight.
Jennings spent his childhood in Salisbury, North Carolina where he was active in his church and the Boy Scouts. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1943 and served in World War II. After the war he attended and graduated from Columbia Bible College in Columbia, South Carolina where he met his future wife Louise Hardy. Jennings and Louise were married in Savannah, Georgia on June 6, 1948. They moved to Miami, Florida and Jennings soon embarked on a 32-year career as a flight engineer for National Airlines and Pan American Airlines. Jennings and Louise raised their three children in Miami and Jacksonville, Florida. Jennings was devoted to his faith and served as an elder in the Presbyterian Church for much of his adult life. Upon Jennings retirement he and Louise moved to Atlanta, Georgia where they lived for 20 years before moving to Williamsburg, Virginia.
Jennings was predeceased by his wife of 63 years Louise Hardy Hill, his son Paul Hill, his parents Ruby Kelly Hill and Oscar Jennings Hill, and his step-mother Lula Peeler Hill. He is survived by his daughters Mary Lee and Debra Hill, his daughters-in-law Karen Hill and Dr. Camilla Buchanan, and his grandchildren, Justin Hill, Gloria Hill, Joy Hill, and Camilla Hill. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Norma and Steve Strawn, niece Lesley Strawn, and nephew Lance Strawn.
The funeral service will be held at 3pm on Sunday October 7 at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg. The burial will be at 10am on Tuesday October 9, 2012 in Swainsboro City Cemetery in Swainsboro. The family wishes to thank the staffs of both Dominion Village and Heartland Hospice Care for their loving care of Jennings.
