Richard H. Berry, 77, of Williamsburg, died Sunday, Nov.r 4, 2012.

He graduated from Washington & Lee University, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, Class of 1957, with a degree in accounting. After graduate study at the University of California at Berkeley, he began his career in public accounting at Price Waterhouse.
In the early 1960s Richard opened his own accounting practice in Salem, Va. Berry, Dale & Co., grew to become one of the largest accounting firms in the state before merging with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in 1979. After more than 25 years in public accounting, Richard explored many and varied entrepreneurial ventures before retiring to Williamsburg with his wife, Barbara.
Richard had a true passion for learning and had more interests and hobbies than most people could fit into a lifetime. Whether he was getting his pilot's license, traveling the globe, or studying his favorite subjects, he was always pursuing new interests. He died suddenly while traveling in Croatia.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Virginia Smith Berry, and his parents, Earl Holbrook Berry and Hazel Osbourne Berry of Huntington, WV.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Shearin Berry; his sister, Eleanor Berry Canepa; his daughter, Melissa Berry Tolmie and her husband, Paul, of Charlotte, NC; his son, Chris Berry and his wife, Jennifer, of Roanoke; his daughter, Laura Berry Talley and her husband, Thomas, of Richmond; and his four grandchildren: Caroline Tolmie, Margaret Tolmie, Kate Talley and Robert Berry.
A private memorial will be held by the family.
