Robert Alexander "Levi" Armstead, a lifelong resident of Williamsburg, died on Dec. 12, 2011, after a lengthy illness. He was born on January 6, 1950, to the late James and Beatrice Armstead.

As a youth, he attended New Zion Baptist Church. He recently retired from Eastern State Hospital after several years of dedicated service.
He is survived by his daughters, Leila Sinclair (Frank), of Williamsburg, Alexandra Armstead, of Atlanta, Charlotte Armstead and Sylvia Walker (Sean), both of Williamsburg; his brothers, James Armstead, Jr. (Arleen), Jerome Armstead, Sr. (Sabrina), William Armstead, Sr. (Juanita) and Bliss Armstead (Karen), all of Williamsburg; his seven grandchildren; his aunt Martha Armstead; his uncle, Charles Armstead; his nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other loving relatives and many caring friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, in Whiting's Chapel with Dr. Robert A. Whitehead officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home by 11:45 a.m. on Friday.
