Rosemary Prosser Obituary
Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Beloved Friend, Administrative Assistant.
Rosemary Prosser, 73, of Williamsburg, died peacefully at home on the evening of April 25 after living a full life for five-and-a-half years with breast cancer. She was surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born to Martin and Margaret (Turjanica) Panigall in Greensburg, Pa. and grew up in Youngstown, Ohio. She and her husband both graduated from Ursuline High School in 1958, but didn't meet until that summer on the beach at Lake Erie. They lived in South Charleston, W.V., then moved to Sterling, Va. where they lived for 33 years before retiring to Williamsburg in 2006.
Rosemary was most proud of their children, who grew up to be friends and interesting, exceptional people with whom she and her husband loved spending time. She enjoyed working with high school students and valued her 18 years as an administrative assistant at Loudoun County's Park View and Stone Bridge high schools.
Attending theater, musical events and movies were her favorite activities, along with cooking and spending time with friends. They were subscribers to and supporters of Williamsburg Symphonia, Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Williamsburg Chamber Music Society, Williamsburg Choral Guild, William and Mary Theater and Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. She was a member of St. Bede Catholic Church and WINGS, a breast cancer support group.
Rosemary leaves behind a loving family: Jim, her husband of more than fifty years; their children and children-in-law: Sean and Shirley Prosser of Herndon, Eric Prosser of Fairfax, Curt Prosser of Ashburn, Megan Prosser and Michael Kohonoski of Dunn Loring; and grandchildren Aaron of Catonsville, Md., Sarah of Radford; and Colin and Lauren of Ashburn, as well as many friends in many places. Her parents and her brother, John Panigall, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, May 2 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd. in Williamsburg. A Mass of Resurrection will be held for Rosemary at St. Bede Catholic Church in Williamsburg at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 3.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice House of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Parkway, Williamsburg, 23188, www.williamsburghospice.org . Online condolences may be expressed at www.nelsencares.com and www.vagazette.com
