On Tuesday, April 2, 2013, God with His infinite wisdom called home for eternal rest our beloved Ruth Anna Cary Patterson. She slipped into a blissful sleep and entered into the Gates of Heaven in St. Francis Nursing Center.

Her life's journey began April 28, 1924, the daughter of the late Alice and John L.W. Cary, of Williamsburg. She was a faithful member of the Historic First Baptist Church of Williamsburg, where she was a former President of the Women's Auxiliary, a member of the Nurse's Aide Ministry, the Pastor's Aide Ministry and the Women's Fellowship Ministry.
Ruth was also a lifetime member of the YJCW Branch of the NAACP, and a member of the Household of Ruth #4943 of United Order of Odd Fellows and Jurisdiction. She retired from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, after many years of dedicated service. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, James C. Patterson, Sr. She leaves to cherish her precious memories her daughter, Delores J. Patterson; sons James C. Patterson, Jr. (Floydette) and John W. Patterson; grandson Christian L.C. Patterson; granddaughter Ashley McCoy; a sister, Alice Cary-Patterson; and a host of other loving relatives and many caring friends.
A Homegoing service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 8 in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Reginald Davis and Dr. Thomas Shields officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Family and friends will assemble at 4100 Windmill Rd by 10 a.m. Monday. Mrs. Patterson may be viewed at Whiting's Funeral Home 3-5 p.m. Sunday. Professional service entrusted to the staff of Whiting's Funeral Home, 7005 Pocahontas Trail, Williamsburg.
