Shirley Pait Smith ("Nonnie"), 77, passed away, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, October 9, at Hospice House of Williamsburg, after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Bladenboro, NC to the late E. Hayes Pait and Minnie Williamson Pait.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Kenneth, daughter Janet Henry, (son-in-law Michael) of Houston, TX; and granddaughters Sarah, Beth and Paige Anderson of Murfreesboro, TN. Sister Louise Smith, of Bladenboro, NC, brother Wilton Pait, (Yvonne) of Harrisburg, NC; sisters-in-law Emily Smith Bryan and Elizabeth Pait of Bladenboro, nephews Fulton Smith (MaryAnn) of Red Springs, NC, and Milton Smith (Colleen), of Fayetteville, NC, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter Pamela Smith Anderson, and her brother, Eldon Pait.
Shirley was a 60 year resident of the Peninsula, moving to the Williamsburg area she loved so much in 1993. She retired from the Bayport Credit Union in 1997. She delighted in spending time with her family and granddaughters ("the girls") and watching them grow into beautiful young ladies that would have made their mother Pam so proud. The girls spent many happy hours with their beloved Nonnie, especially cooking and baking.
