YORKTOWN - Retired Lieutenant Colonel James "Jim" Wilkins, a native of Reform, Alabama and a long-time resident of Yorktown, died February 28, 2014, at the age of 73. He received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Engineering from the University of Alabama. He retired from the Army Corps of Engineers after 24 years of service and retired from the York County School Division as Director of Maintenance and Facilities Support, Yorktown, Virginia in 2010. He was a charter member in the Kiwanis Club of Grafton and was a great father and friend to the community. Mr. Wilkins was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Jeanne Hempstead Wilkins; mother, Lillian Orr Wilkins; father, Johnny Boyd Wilkins and step-mother Maureen Pate Wilkins. He is survived by his daughter, Simone Wilkins Belden of Williamsburg; son, James Christopher Wilkins (Katherine) of Cardiff, Wales; daughter, Sonya Wilkins Boyd (Shannon); grandchildren, Nicholas Belden and Christopher Belden of Williamsburg, Lillian Boyd, James "Colton" Boyd and Jackson Boyd of Yorktown. The family will receive friends from 6-7 pm on Wednesday, March 5 at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, March 6, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
