WILLIAMSBURG - Raymond Charles Jahr, 71, passed away July 23, 2014 after a brave and hard fought battle with esophageal cancer. He was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, "Opa", and friend who will be deeply missed. Ray was born in Brooklyn, NY on June 12, 1943. He and his wife Trudy just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in May. After working as an auto mechanic as a young man, Ray worked for NY Telephone Co. for over 30 years and retired as a foreman. Retirement brought the couple to Williamsburg, VA in 1996. Ray became a very active and dedicated member of his neighborhood's HOA, holding multiple positions, including serving as president of the board of Berkeley's Green. Ray enjoyed a very active lifestyle starting from a young age which included boating, fishing and kayaking. He even went white water rafting down the Colorado River! He loved being on the water. Ray was an avid scuba diver for many years and served as president of the Long Island Divers Association. He logged countless dives from the Atlantic to the Pacific, some of which included famous shipwrecks off the coast of Long Island as well as Truk Lagoon in Micronesia! Ray was the loving father of three daughters, Theresa Calabrese, and husband James, of Williamsburg, VA, Susan Lepore, and husband Vincent, of Milford, PA, Laura Glum, and husband Terrence, of Massapequa Park, NY. He was also the proud "Opa" of nine: Carly and Kate Calabrese, Emily, Nicholas and Abigail Lepore, and Olivia, Cassidy, Stevie Rae and Dennis Glum. The family will receive friends from 1-5 PM on Sunday, July 27th at Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Interment in Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale, NY will follow on Tuesday, July 29th.
