Marilyn Miller Entwisle Obituary
Marilyn Miller Entwisle died October 24, 2012 at her home in Williamsburg, from complications due to a stroke.
Marilyn was born September 21, 1923 at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia. She married John S. Entwisle on August 12, 1944 in Conshohocken, PA. She gradated in 1940 from Conshohocken High School and in 1944 from the College of William and Mary with a BS in Biology.
While living in Meadowbrook, PA, Marilyn was active in Cup One Doubles Tennis with Betty Harbison at Huntingdon Valley Country Club; she was President and a member of the Random Garden Club; and exhibited regularly at the prestigious Philadelphia Flower Show where she won a variety of awards, including 1st Place in 1974 for "Section of a Room Depicting a Hobby". She was also a docent at the Philadelphia Zoo (she loved visiting elementary schools in the city and showing the animals to all the children).
While living in Williamsburg, Marilyn was very much involved in the community at the College of William and Mary. Her memberships included: The Christopher Wren Association; The President's Council; The Society of the Alumni Board; Friends of the Swem Library; The Muscarelle Museum; and The Tribe Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John S. Entwisle, and her only sibling, a brother, Harry Kern Miller. She is survived by her four children, John S. Entwisle, Jr., Dan T. Entwisle, Bruce K. Entwisle, and Nancy J. Entwisle, and 10 grandchildren.
A service in memory of Mrs. Entwisle will be at 1 p.m. on November 9, 2012, in the Great Hall of the Christopher Wren Building on the campus of William & Mary College, Williamsburg, VA 23185. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make donations payable to: The College of William and Mary Foundation, P.O. Box 1693, Williamsburg, VA 23187. Please specify in memo either "In memory of Marilyn Entwisle" or "John S. and Marilyn M. Entwisle Endowed Gateway Scholarship."
