Obituary Condolences

Catherine (Kitty) Lydia Boot Betz, age 92, passed away at Patriots Colony Convalescent Center, Williamsburg, on November 19, 2012. She was the daughter of Alfred Henry Boot and Naomi Florence Douglas Boot. Preceding her in death were her parents, her sister Mildred Boot Brazelton, her first husband Charles Monroe Johnstone, Jr., her husband Dr. Fredrick Earl Betz, and her nephew Kim D. Brazelton. She is survived by her son Gary Robert Betz and daughter-in-law Devon Hughes Betz; her daughter Cathleene Betz Hellier and son-in-law Benjamin Richard Hellier; grandsons Griffin Robert Betz (and wife Ilana), Geoffrey David Betz, and Stephen James Hellier; granddaughter Catherine Jean Hellier; nephews David T. Brazelton, and William H. "Skip" Brazelton (and wife Mare); grandnephew Nathan Brazelton; and grandnieces Jessica Brazelton, Rachel Brazelton, Kaelyn Brazelton, and Alexandra Brazelton. She also leaves behind her special friends and caregivers Mary Watkins and Demetrice Harvey. The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Patriots Colony.
"Miss Kitty" was a graduate of Munhall High School and Grace Martin's Secretarial School.
Kitty was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a homemaker in the full sense of the word. Kitty could cook, bake, sew, knit, crochet, garden, decorate, put up produce, and do almost any type of craft. Her family treasures the many things she made for their homes.
She was also an artist. She attended special art classes at Carnegie Mellon University while she was still in high school and returned to painting when the nest was empty.
Mrs. Betz was born in West Mifflin, PA, but lived most of her adult life in Hermitage, PA. There she was a member of Hickory United Methodist Church, the Couples Club, the "Girls' Club," and her Homemakers' groups, and there she leaves behind her very best friends. She moved to Williamsburg in 2002 and was a resident of Patriots Colony.
Visitation will be held at Hickory United Methodist Church, Hermitage, PA, at noon on Saturday, November 24th, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 at the church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage. Arrangements by Joseph P. Brashen Funeral Service. Flowers are welcome, or friends who wish to donate in her honor may contribute to Hickory United Methodist Church or a .
