Jim Newman, 66, of Williamsburg passed away on Feb. 14, 2013, peacefully at home surrounded by family after a 14-month "marathon" struggle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on Jan. 9, 1947, to the late Rev. John Wesley Newman and Helen Austin Newman. Jim was preceded in death by his older brother, John Wesley Newman III. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Patricia Hooker Newman; son, Austin Hooker Newman (Holly); and two grandsons, Arthur Henry Newman and William Austin Newman.

Jim was a 1969 graduate of the College of William and Mary as well as the Marshall School of Law in 1976. He had worked as a stockbroker, Realtor, lawyer and builder before finally partnering with Sunny Day Guide to establish the Williamsburg Colonial Guide and Sunny Day in Sanibel, Fla. Jim enjoyed sports, history, plants, and traveling the world.
The family thanks all of the friends, colleagues and extended family who were so supportive and faithful in visiting him during this illness.
In lieu of a service or flowers, the family will hold a scattering of ashes at a later date.
