June Avis Mather

1921 - 2012

June Avis Mather, the daughter of Earl and Zouella (Wiley) Powell was born Aug. 25, 1921 in Stockton, Mo. She attended West Bend Country School in Rock Port to the eighth grade.
In 1942 June was united in marriage to Virgil E. Mather and they became the parents of 10 children. They were divorced in 1966. June worked as a waitress at the Tumble Inn in Tarkio and the Tarkio Nutrition Center where she retired in 1990. June passed away Saturday, July 14, 2012, surrounded by her family at her home in Tarkio at the age of 90.
Besides her parents, June is preceded in death by one granddaughter, Stacie Mather Knop; grandparents, William and Hattie Powell and Luke and Margret Wiley; brothers, Williard and Norman Powell and sister, Eunice Fletcher. Survivors include her children, Gary (Tammy) Mather, Burlington Jct., Mo., Kenny (Susan) Mather, Joplin, Mo., Virgil Mather, Tarkio, James (Susie) Mather, Tarkio, Phil (Maria) Mather, Shenandoah, Steve (Barb) Mather, Webb City, Mo., Marilyn (Melvin) Hicks, Tarkio, Tammy (Duane) Moore, Shenandoah, June (Dave) Tucker, La Junta, Colo., Connie (Ed) Gebhards, Tarkio; sister, Oka Walden, Tarkio; 29 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services took place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, First Baptist Church in Tarkio. Interment followed at Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Tarkio, or Kendallwood Hospice, St. Joseph, Missouri.
