Derrick Heilman
WESLACO, TX.-
Jay Derrick Heilman went to his eternal home on November 6, 2012 at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. Derrick was born in Mercedes, TX on December 16, 1960.
He graduated from Weslaco High School in 1979 and went on to attend Texas A&M University and Texas A&M Kingsville (formerly Texas A&I), graduating in 1985 with a BS in Agriculture Economics. He married Elizabeth Maseles in 1982 and was a very proud father of three sons, Travis, Tyler and Trey.
Derrick was a life long Texan living from the northern tip of theTexas Panhandle to the bottom of the Rio Grande Valley with many places in between. He was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for sailing, hunting (both local and big game) and team roping.
Derrick most loved being involved with his kids' life from coaching little league to helping with 4-H projects to watching and listening as they found their own successes.
Derrick is survived by his three sons, Travis Lee Heilman (wife Payton), Jay Tyler Heilman and Cameron Trey Heilman; his parents, Marvin and Karen Heilman; his two brothers, Brent Heilman (wife Letty) and Reid Heilman (wife Shelly); seven nieces and nephews; one great niece; and his loyal dog companion, Skeet.
Visitation will be held today, Friday, November 9, 2012 from 5pm to 7pm at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 10am at Bridge Avenue Church of Christ in Weslaco, officiated by Cary Gillis and Bill Roach.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ashley McAllen, James Namken, John Lackey, Randy Tisdale, Cal Bates, David Cale, Tim Thompson, Lee Ferguson, Rob Harris and Mike Reed.
