Laura Ann Wise
SAN ANTONIO, TX./
HARLINGEN,TX.
Laura Ann Wise, age 48, of San Antonio, Texas lost her courageous battle with Cancer on August 5th, 2014. She was born February 12, 1966 in Harlingen, Texas to Herman & Raquel Wise.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents.
Laura was a graduate of Harlingen High School and the University of Texas-Brownsville. Laura was a 2nd grade teacher in San Antonio & previously taught English as a Second Language in Los Fresnos.
Laura is survived by her 14 year old daughter, Olivia; her pride and joy. Laura was an amazing mother; Olivia's pillar of support. As Laura was teaching her chick to fly, she was unwavering in her valiant fight to beat cancer. Although bedridden, Laura proudly announced to the world that Olivia's veterinary medicine related science project won 1st place in state competition.
Laura's passion was in animal rescue; she was a regular volunteer at Wildlife Rescue & Rehab in Kendalia. She along with her daughter worked tirelessly to rehabilitate injured vulnerable animals. She volunteered at several wildlife rescue shelters such as Forever Home Donkey Rescue in Arizona, Barnyard Petting Zoo in Pennsylvania, Jenny's Rescued Farm Animals in New York, Best Friends Animal Rescue in Utah, and Khulula Wildlife Rescue & Rehab in Africa. She truly appreciated the beauty of nature, especially the beautiful souls of God's creatures. One of her most spiritual experiences was holding a dolphin that had been attacked by sharks and helping it stay afloat in a tank at the Coastal Studies Lab at South Padre Island.
As Laura battled cancer, she received much needed spiritual therapy from the animals she helped rehabilitate. Laura's free spirit will forever be a part of the wind and surf at her beloved South Padre Island. Laura fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.
She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Olivia Wise-Dent; her sisters Blanca Garcia and Nelda Rodriguez (Rene); brothers David Wise (Cristela) and Herman Wise Jr. (JoAnn); Aunt Josie (Bud) Ellard and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Rudy Garza Funeral Home on Monday, August 18, 7 pm.
