Frank S. Pena
Judge Frank S. Pena, 91, entered eternal rest with our heavenly father on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at his lifelong residence.
Judge Pena was born in Primera, Texas on May 2, 1922. He joined the Armed Air Force and was stationed at the Harlingen Air Base. He completed gunnery school and received his medical certification in Radiology from the University of Indiana. In his return to Harlingen, he married Jovita Valadez Pena, and was wed for over 69 years until her death on February 3, 2013.
A lifelong community leader, he served Harlingen as a business owner of "Harlingen Financing Loan Co.", and as a Rotary Club member in which he was listed as one of the community's most influential people in the History of Harlingen. He also took leadership roles in the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Chamber of Commerce of Harlingen for several years. Judge Pena was then elected as Justice of the Peace of Harlingen in 1964 and served in office for a total of 12 years, leaving a legacy of the voice and power of the Hispanic people.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jovita V. Pena; parents, Antonio and Crisanta Pena; and brother, Antonio (Tony) Pena, Jr.
Frank is survived by his son Hesiquio H. Pena (Zeke) of Harlingen; two grandsons, Hiram H. (Mindy) Pena and Isaac Frank Pena; and great-grandson, Joaquin E. Pena.
Visitation will be held today, October 25, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a prayer of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Funeral Chapel.
Funeral mass will be held Saturday, October 26, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
He was a devoted catholic to his parish alongside his wife for many years and was a pioneer in establishing the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church & Private School.
Honored to be pallbearers are Raul Reyna, Ismael Herrera, Daniel Gonzalez, Jr., Beto Pena, Mario Pena, and Carlos Pena.
Thank you to Magdalena Ramirez, considered a caregiver and daughter to Frank and Jovita. Words can't describe the time and patience she has dedicated to the family.
