Samuel Carubia Obituary

Samuel Sarafino Joseph Carubia
HARLINGEN, TX.-
Samuel Sarafino Joseph Carubia passed away December 17, 2011 at home with his family in Harlingen, Texas.
Sam was born April 9, 1929 in New York City to Marco and Carmela Carubia. He spent his boyhood in the midtown neighborhood where the United Nations complex later would be located. He graduated from Harran High School and served in the U. S. Army at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
After serving in the military, Sam held a position as a federal employee (USDA) in instruction of meat processing. He met and married his wife Virginia Griffin Carubia in Denver, Colorado. After living in Colorado and Minnesota he and his family moved to Texas. After retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively, visiting Turkey, Egypt, Ireland, Germany, Greece, France, New Zealand, and Australia. A visit to Italy gave him a particularly memorable opportunity to meet relatives and speak Italian, his first language. He and his wife bought a fifth wheel and traveled all of the United States, South Padre Island and Washington State being their favorite destinations. He and his wife settled permanently in Harlingen in 1997.
Sam was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. He particularly enjoyed woodworking, coin collecting, lapidary, and having his friends, children, and grandchildren over for their Italian dinners.
Sam is survived by his wife, Virginia, son Mark Griffin Carubia and wife Katherine of Atlanta, Georgia; daughter Anne Griffin Carubia De Leon and husband Orlando of Austin, Texas; and three grandchildren, Ava Carubia, Paloma Carubia and Orlando Samuel Carubia De Leon. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Joseph Robert Carubia.
A mass and gravesite ceremony will be held later this year at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Stewartville, Minnesota.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the memorial fund at Sunshine Country Club Estates, 4110 North Expressway 77, Harlingen, Texas 78550.Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Heavenly Grace Funeral Home and Crematory.

Virginia--We share your grief. I remember happier times of fishing with Sam and Sam smoking his cigar. I remember Sam burning his line with his cigar and also losing his fish. Blessings to you and your family.
