Roberta Elva Hardinger, 102, passed away February 11, 2014 in La Feria.
Roberta was born July 9, 1911 in Garretson, South Dakota to Iva Belle and Will Henry Collins. Her family moved to Waterloo, Iowa in 1914 and she married Eugene Hardinger in 1928. Roberta graduated from West High School in 1929 and was employed by Gallaway Farm Equipment Co. as a secretary.
During, WWII Roberta was a homemaker and the choir director and pianist for the Northminister Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. The family moved to Harlingen in 1946, where they attended and volunteered at the Jackson Street First Presbyterian Church. Then the family moved to La Feria in 1950.
After Eugene's death, Roberta worked at the Coakley Jr. High School cafeteria and later as a secretary with the American Red Cross working with Helen Fuehner. She helped many friends with illness, elderly parents, baby sitting, and house sitting. Roberta was also a seamstress and sewed for many Harlingen people. She was a very loving and generous person with many friends who she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Will Henry Collins and Iva Bell Berry Collins; her husband, Eugene Hardinger; her daughter, Betty Ann Fullinwilder; sisters, Bertha La Ella Collins McArthur, Bernice Elizabeth Collins Diets, and Dorothy Collins Jung; brothers, Larkin Collins and Bill Collins.
Roberta is survived by her daughters, Patsy Jean Webb and Mae Louise (Richard) Smith; grandchildren, Patrick (Thesa) Webb, Michael (Joyce) Webb, Dean (Lucy) Fullinwider Jr., Christine and San Lewis; Laurel (Dr. C.W.) Berryman; Robert (Paula) Smith and Stacey (Laura) Smith; great grandchildren, Cumella Webb, Crystal (David) Harlow, Keith (Beth) Lewis; Alice Nicole Berryman Bolte, Christina Noel Berryman, Jacob Lee, James Larkin, Jonah Levi, Julia Lauren, and Josiah Luke Smith; and one great great grandchild McKenna Harlow.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 114, 2014, 2 p.m., at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria.
