MCALLEN, TX. --
Carolyn Green Thomas, 87, left her earthly home on June 10, 2014 in Mission, Texas.
Carolyn was born on February 7, 1927 to Paul D. Green, Sr. and Callie Pauline Green in Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated from Lawrenceville High School in 1945 and set her sights set on a handsome GI who returned from World War II, James W. Thomas, whom she married in 1946. In 1961 Carolyn and James moved to McAllen, Texas to work with relatives in the booming produce business. Carolyn gave birth to six children in eight years and was a loving, supportive mother and homemaker her entire life. She proudly stated that one year she had three babies: One in January and premature twins in September! Carolyn enjoyed sewing and spent many late nights making Easter dresses for her daughters. She was a fantastic Granny to her eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Later in life she enjoyed painting and gave her grandchildren art lessons. She volunteered much of her time at local hospitals rocking premature babies. Her other hobbies included playing cards with loyal friends and cooking for her family. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in McAllen until her health prevented attendance.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her loving husband James after 49 years of marriage and one grandson, Gary Lee Fredrick.
She is survived by her 6 children, Paul (Peggi) Thomas of Harlingen, Larry Thomas of McAllen, twin girls Brenda Thomas of Houston and Linda Fredrick of Springdale, AR, Judy (Larry) Hearn of Acworth GA and Richard (Carla) Thomas of Round Rock TX.
