Carmen Flores 80, of Harlingen entered into rest June 15, 2014. She was born April 25, 1934 in Monterrey, Mexico to Rafael and Refugia Perez. She married the late Juan Flores and together raised six children.
While raising her children Carmen thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at the schools her children attended serving on the PTA Board and holding several officer positions. She also volunteered at the schools her grandchildren attended. In addition to that she was a HOST volunteer and La Feria Head Start employee. Carmen attended Immaculate Heart of Mary where she taught CCD for 40 years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Juan Flores.
Carmen is survived by her loving family; her children; Maria Del Carmen (Eduardo) Portales, Benita (Luis Jr.) Sanchez, Maria Cruz, Juan (Rose) Flores, Maria (Gary) Fuller, Teresa Sanchez; her special niece Judy Colunga; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grand-children, 1 great-great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother, Jesus Perez, brother-in-law, Miguel Flores and two sisters-in-law, Maria Magdalena Lozano and Juanita Perez.
Visitation will be today (Wednesday) beginning at 10AM-9PM and a holy rosary will be recited at 7PM.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 19, 2014 departing the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace at 9:30AM for a 10:00 AM mass at St Anthony Catholic Church and interment will follow at Ashland Cemetery.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are her grandsons: Joshua Hiram Cruz, Jason Isaac Flores, Juan Andres Flores, Jr., Ryan Eric Flores, Alexander Matthew Fuller, Christopher Albert Portales, Hector John Sanchez II and Michael Andrew Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers will be her 14 great grandsons.
Funeral services are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home.
