Marvin was active in DeMolay and served as scribe. He was in the DeMolay degree team that won second in the state. He played trumpet in the Harlingen high school band before graduating in 1951. He attended Texas A&M and became involved in Hillel. He was unable to get a commission and therefore transferred to the University of Houston.
At the University of Houston, he pledged a local fraternity, Alpha Sigma Tau, where he later was elected President. Marvin continued his religious interest and was a representative of the fraternity at the religious group council at the University of Houston.
Marvin graduated from the University of Houston with a BBA degree. After serving in the military for two years, he returned to Harlingen in 1958 and worked in the family business, Delta Gift Bazaar and Delta Office Supply Company, selling office supplies, machines and furniture.
In 1983, he opened Discount Office Furniture, and successfully ran that business until 2003 when he closed the store and went into semi-retirement. He continued to sell office furniture on a part time basis for the largest office product dealer in the valley on a commission basis.
At the age of 72, he started selling office furniture for Jones & Cook Stationers. He has been an active member of our community, serving as President of the Harlingen Jaycees, President of the Harlingen Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Recipient, a Director of the Harlingen Chamber of Commerce and various other committees in the community.
He was an avid golfer, past member of Life Begins at 40 and member of the NHAA Golf Tournament . He also was a member of the Temple Beth Israel in Harlingen and a Master Mason.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Ann Sondock; his step children Crystal Renee (Nelson) Tipton, Michael Wayne (Elma) Tipton, Lee Roy Tipton, John M. (Hiedi) Clay; his brother Gerald (Shirley) Sondock, 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Ned and Tillie Sondock.
