Maria "Mere" G. Escamilla, 90 of Rio Hondo, TX passed away peacefully with her daughter at her side on Saturday, July 12, 2014. Mere is the daughter of the late Calixto and Aparicia Garza. She was a graduate of Rio Hondo High School.
She was born on November 15, 1923 in Rio Hondo, TX. She was the oldest of 11 siblings. She graduated from Rio Hondo High School in 1942 and later married Gilberto Escamilla on May 26, 1946.
Mere served as an active member at La Trinidad Assemblies of God Church in Rio Hondo. She was a good and faithful servant. She loved the Lord and served him to the end.
She is preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband Gilberto D. Escamilla; son David Escamilla; her parents Aparicia and Calixto Garza, Sr.; a brother and 2 sisters Jose J. Garza, baby sister Ofelia Garza and Felipa Trevino; and brother in law Rev. Juan A. Trevino.
Mere is survived by her daughter in-law Maria S. Escamilla; her son and daughter in-law Noel and Rosie Escamilla; daughter Priscilla Escamilla; her pride and joy grandchildren "The Party of 5" Stephen, Noe, Mac Escamilla, Katina Welch, and Noelia Garza.
Mere had the privilege of having 10 great grandchildren; Steve, Joshua Miranda, Diego and Isabella Escamilla, Kristen, Brittney and J.D. Dove. Vivianna and Annalisa Garza; her brothers and sisters Daniel (Lala) Garza, Isaias Garza, Calixto (Lucila) Garza, Jr., Elia (Alfredo) Lopez, Rev. David Eli (Jean) Garza, Felipe (Angelita) Garza and Noemi (Rev. Lazaro) Gutierrez.
Visitation will be held at 9:00am-9:00pm Wednesday, July 16, 2014 in the Rudy Garza Funeral Home Chapel with a prayer service to be held at 7:00pm.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, July 17, 2014 at La Trinidad Assembly of God Church in Rio Hondo with Rev. Joe Cavazos officiating and burial to follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
Serving as pallbearers will be Noel, Noe, Stephen and Steve Escamilla, Alex Garza and Brent Welch.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Joshua Escamilla and J.D. Dove.
Mom, your memory will be cherished in our hearts forever.
Arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen.
