MERCEDES, TX. - Juan Diego Leal, 67, passed away Friday, November 8, 2013. Juan was born November 13, 1945.
He is the son of the late Jose and Aurora Leal of Mercedes, TX. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, 25th Infantry Division, Mekong Delta, 1967-1969 (Vietnam Tour), He was awarded the following medals: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam; Campaign Medal, Unit Citation, Service Medal and decorated by 4-Star General Westmoreland; The Army Commendation Medal (5 pt. star).
He is survived by 3 sons, Rolando R. Leal, Juan Diego Leal, Jr., and Joseph Rolando Leal. Also surviving are 2 sisters, Evangelina L. (Javier) Martinez and Mary L. (Jaime) Hinojosa and 8 grandchildren.
Visitation will begin today, Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013 from 10 a.m. till 9 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. at the funeral home Chapel. Visitation will also be held Friday from 8:30 a.m. till 12 noon.
Graveside services will be held Friday, Nov. 16, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery, 2520 S. Inspiration Road, Mission, TX.
Honorary pallbearers will be Armando Saldana, Jr., Luis Garcia, Jose Luis Sauceda, Alfredo Fuentes, Enrique Longorioa, III, Francisco Alvarez and Jesus Ramirez.
Special thanks are given to all that helped the Leal family.
Funeral services are under the care of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.
