Alvin Ray Vilt, 77, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at his residence in Harlingen, Texas.
He was born on March 3, 1937 in Morris, Illinois to Rudolph and Virginia Vilt.
Alvin served his country in the United States Air Force from July 1954 until October 1959 when he was honorably discharged from service. He also received the National Defense Service Medal.
He married Sara Rodriguez on June 15, 1955 in Chicago Heights, Indiana.
He was employed at the Federal Paper Mill in Morris, Illinois until the Paper Mill closed. He then went to work for the United States Postal Service where he worked until his retirement.
He was a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 967 in Morris, Illinois and a member of the American Legion in Morris, Illinois.
Alvin is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sara D. Vilt, his two daughters Della (Jerry) Rankin and Deanna (Craig) Cook both of Morris, Illinois, daughter-in-law Hilda Vilt of Harlingen and one brother, Dale Vilt of Schaumburg, Illinois. Nine grandchildren Tanya (Josh) Downey, Sondra Rankin, Shawn (Casi) Brown, Joshua (Natali Freeman) Vilt, Jeremy Vilt, Jordan Vilt, Tasha (Tony Hughes) Vilt, Brett Cook, and Jasmine Cook. Five great grandchildren Ella Walker, Tyler and Hope Downey, Jacob Vilt, Lorelai Brown and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son David R. Vilt, his twin brother Allen Roy Vilt, another brother Paul Vilt and three children in infancy.
