Ezequiel Caballero Sr.|
MERCEDES, TX. -Ezequiel Caballero, Sr., passed away at 1:40 p.m., Thursday, December 20th after a short illness, at the age of 91. He was born in 1916 to Arcadio Sr. and Adela Caballero.
Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather join his deceased brothers and sisters with the Lord. Brothers were Arcadio Jr. and Sabas. Sisters were Herminia, Elvira, Conchita, and Guadalupe.
He is survived by his loving wife Maria Luisa Caballero, a sister Adelita Fernandez (Joaquin), a daughter Adelita Gonzalez, his two sons Ruben Jaime Sr. (Bertha), and Ezequiel Jr. Grandchildren are Laura Armstrong (David), Claudia Esparza (Carlos), Nicolina, Ruben Jaime Jr., and Jason Ryan. Great grandchildren include Taylor Nicole Armstrong and Matthew David Armstrong. He is also survived by numerous of nieces and nephews. All were dear to his heart.
He was a proud member of the American Legion and a World War II veteran, having served honorably in the Army Air Corp, 13th Air Force, in the Pacific. Upon his return from military service, he was a businessman and civil service employee. He retired from Federal Employment in 1983. In retirement, he enjoyed selling produce to the Mercedes Community and supporting the Mercedes Tigers.
Pallbearers will be Mayor of Mercedes: Joel Quintanilla, Mercedes City Manager: Richard Garcia, Jason Ryan Caballero, R.J. Caballero, Ruben Jaime Caballero, Howard Wade. Honorary: Matthew David Armstrong, David Armstrong, Daniel Avila, Dalia Carr, Mercedes Chief of Police: Olga Maldonado, and Ruben Cardenas.
Visitation was held, Saturday, December 22, 2007 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. officiated by Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, December 23, 2007. We will depart Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace at 2:30 p.m. for a 3:00 p.m. mass at Sacred Heart Church. Interment will then follow at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Weslaco, Texas.
