Lorna Kathleen DUDLEY Obituary

September 2, 1931 - June 8, 2012

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing on June 8th of Lorna Kathleen Dudley (nee McPhedrain) after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She passed with her husband and sons at her side. Lorna is survived by her husband of 55 years (Len); sons Alan (Andrea); Brian (Cristy & daughter Earlene); and Darrell (Deborah); and granddaughters Tessa, Tamara, Ariana, Kayla and Serena. Lorna was predeceased by her parents Olive and Willard McPhedrain and brother Larry (Fran). She is survived by her sister Lavina Shaw, nieces Lenora (Miles), and Brenda (Tugamir), and their children. Lorna was born in the United Church Mission Hospital in Ethelbert, MB. Her happy and busy childhood years were spent growing up in a train station/residence in Sifton, MB, where her father was the popular station agent. After completing high school, Lorna worked for a year with Revenue Canada in Winnipeg, after which she entered nursing school at Winnipeg General Hospital (WGH). After graduation as a registered nurse (RN), Lorna moved to Vancouver and practiced as a nurse at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) and St. Paul's Hospital, in Vancouver. In 1959, Lorna and Len moved to North Vancouver where she enjoyed her passion for gardening and developed many wonderful friendships. A memorial service for Lorna, followed by a reception in the church hall, will be held on Thursday, June 28th at 1 pm at North Lonsdale United Church, 3380 Lonsdale Avenue, North Vancouver, where Lorna was an active member for many years. The family offers heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Sunrise Senior Living at Lynn Valley, who extended to Lorna the same kindness and gentleness that Lorna gave to her patients and others throughout her life. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lorna's memory to the Alzheimer Society of B.C. (www.alzheimerbc.org) would be appreciated.

Dear Len

So sad to hear about the loss of your dear Lorna. I remember her genuine kindness and heartfelt laugh. I always enjoyed sharing time with you both at my parent's home over the years. My mom spoke to me about your dedication to Lorna, and your friendship meant a lot to all of us. May she rest in peace, and you and your family take comfort in the memories she left behind.

To Len,

Our sincerest condolenses on the loss of your wife. She was a great friend to my mother and father and they always cherished the memories of the two of you joining them on sailing excursions, particularly Sail-past, and many evenings entertaining each other in your homes. Growing up having the two of you as dear friends of my parents I had the opportunity to enjoy Lorna's sense of humour and could tell that she had a genuine interest in me (and in the later years, my family) by the way she engaged in our personal conversations. May your family find peace now knowing she is in a better place reconnecting with friends and family that have passed before her, including my parents, Wim and Elsie.
