With sadness in our hearts we announce the passing of Betty on Monday, April 14, 2014. Betty was born in Toronto, Ontario and spent her early 20's on the road skating in professional shows with "Holiday on Ice" and the "Hollywood Ice Review". She then worked for CFRB Radio in Toronto and spent countless hours volunteering as a driver for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, as well as working at Women's College Hospital in Toronto, both for over 20 years. After moving to North Vancouver to be with her family, she was an active member and volunteer at Silver Harbour Seniors Centre and a member of the North Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club.
Betty was predeceased by her sisters Irene Jackson and Joan Marshall, and brother Gordon Cornford. She will be missed by her great niece Lori Byrd (Wayne) and great-great nephews Cole and Scott Byrd, niece Lynn Jamieson and family, relatives throughout the US, close friends Jocelyn and Vikki, plus her many friends in both North Vancouver and Toronto.
The family is grateful for the exceptional care provided to Betty by all the nursing staff of 2 East at Lions Gate Hospital. By Betty's request there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers your sympathy can be expressed by a memorial donation to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the SPCA in BC.
