DAHLIE, Mary Betty
DAHLIE, Mary Betty July 18, 1929 – May 10, 2015 Born in Riverhurst, Saskatchewan, Betty's prairie roots were reflected in her love of the coulees and nature, her interest in history, and her abiding curiosity in and warmth towards others. From attending a one-room school to obtaining her BA in Archeology in her late forties, from moving from Moose Jaw to northern BC with her girlfriend at age 18, she had a zest for life and learning. Together with her husband Hallvard whom she married in 1950, Betty lived in New Denver, Smithers, Kitimat, West Vancouver and Calgary. Along the way they raised four children and enjoyed hiking, skiing and exploring backroads as a family. Her warm smile and her baking made their home a welcome place for family and friends. Betty was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in her mid 70s and for the past 7 years, she made her home at Cedarview Lodge in North Vancouver. She passed away gently on the evening of Mother's Day surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband Hallvard, their four children – Brenda (David), Brant (Tenley), Lisa (Bill) and Mark (Radha), five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, her brother Murray, and her sisters, Isobel and Jean. The family would like to express their profound gratitude to all the staff at Cedarview, and in particular, the Pine Forest staff for their wonderful care of Betty during these past years. Her smile to the end reflected her contentment from being surrounded by their warmth and kindness. There will be no service by request. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of BC or to a charity of your choice.
