MATTHEWS, Irene May 1931 - 2015 Irene was born in Vancouver, BC, on April 17,1931. For five years, Irene lived with her parents Herbert and Emily Howlett in Aldergrove. In 1937, they moved to the Cedar Cottage area of Vancouver and lived in the same house until her parents retired to White Rock; while Irene remained at the family home. Irene was educated at Lord Selkirk and graduated from John Oliver High School in 1948. In 1949, she joined the staff at the City of Vancouver and remained there until her retirement in 1986. Irene married Richard (Dick) Matthews in 1957. Irene enjoyed 5 pin bowling for many years, and made many friends at the bowling alley and elsewhere. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 11th 2:00pm at First Memorial Boal Chapel in North Vancouver, 1505 Lillooet Rd. She will be missed by her loving husband, his relatives and friends.

McLEOD, Mary Elizabeth (nee Hampton) 1930 - 2015 Mary passed away in her 84th year on June 16th at the Inglewood Care Centre in West Vancouver after a long, hard fought battle with dementia. Mary is greatly missed and lovingly remembered by Ronald, her husband of 63 years, her daughters Diane (Hugh) and Vicki (Bruce), her four grandchildren Scott, Ross, Neil, and Marianne, her three siblings Frank, Margaret and Dave and many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her parents George and Lillian Hampton, her brothers Harry, Richard, Stan and Donny and her son Ryan. Mary was a lifelong resident of North Vancouver. She worked as a B.C. Telephone Operator before settling down to raise her family. She was an avid sports woman her entire life participating in many sports including baseball, basketball, bowling, curling, field hocky and tennis. Many happy family vacations were spent at Osoyoos Lake and at their cabin at Green Lake where Mary enjoyed boating, swimming and water-skiing and her immediate and extended families. The family wishes to thank Dr. Gilbert and all the staff at Inglewood for the wonderful care Mary received during her last few years. There will be a celebration of her life on Wednesday, July 8th from 2pm to 6pm at the McLeod family home - 273 East 6th Street in North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Alzheimer Society of B.C.
