Marguerite Thornton

Marguerite Mary Thornton, 67, passed away on Friday, July 18th, 2013 at Abbotsford Regional Hospital in Abbotsford, British Columbia. She was born on July 21st, 1945 in Bonnyville, Alberta to Lachlan Joseph MacMillan and Bridget ('Pat') Mary (O' Dwyer) MacMillan.

Marguerite grew up in Alberta and graduated from Notre Dame College in Nelson, British Columbia in 1962. She graduated from Simon Fraser University in 1978 with a Bachelor Degree in Education and spent over 25 years teaching elementary school in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia before retiring in 1999. Many of her students stayed in touch with her over the years, a testament to her natural talent for teaching.

Marguerite married Chester in 1991 in Abbotsford, British Columbia. They were happily married for 22 years.

Marguerite was preceded in death by Pat, Lachlan and her sister Cathy Fujibayashi. Marguerite is survived by husband Chester of Abbotsford, British Columbia; sister Bridget Martin of Seattle, Washington, son Jim Conley of Cranbrook, British Columbia; daughters Cher Thornton of Toronto, Ontario and Cindy Munson of Kamloops, British Columbia and grandchildren Calem, Amalea, Soren, Rorik, Seth, Rowen and Fenton.

Marguerite was an avid and adventurous traveler, visiting China, Peru, Turkey, Thailand, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, Bali, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, Borneo, Japan, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Denmark, Portugal, Holland, Germany, England, Israel, Egypt, Morocco, Spain and Jordan. Thousands of photos she collected in scrapbooks document the friends she made wherever she went, most of all in the places closest to home.

A celebration of life will be held at Marguerite and Chester's home on August 17th, 2013.
