Lucy Joan Patricia (Pat) Swanson (nee Bryce) of Coquitlam, BC formerly of North Vancouver, passed away on June 22nd surrounded by her family after a short illness. Pat will be greatly missed by her husband Walter of almost 64 years, along with children Bev (Ian), Heather (Gerry), Greg (Maureen) and Laura (Mark), grandchildren Chris, Ryan (Machaela), Curtis (Amanda), Rachelle (Jon), Chantel, Dustin, Meghan (Tim), Nick, Corey, Erin and Sean and great grandchildren, Tim, Jazmyne, Carter and Nevaeh. Born in North Vancouver to David and Lucy Bryce, Pat was raised in Dinsmore Sask. by her Aunt and Uncle after the death of her mother. She returned to North Vancouver to attend North Van High and upon graduation began work for BC Tel as a telephone operator. She married Walter in July 1948 and left her job in 1950 to begin a family. As a couple, Pat and Walter had the good fortune to travel to many places including several trips to the Caribbean, Europe, China and Alaska. As a family, there were many memorable trips to the Oregon Coast, Washington State and the BC Interior. In addition to raising her own four children, Pat had a hand in guiding many others. She opened their home to many children through daycare and foster parenting. With their family grown, Pat and Walter sold their North Vancouver home in 1981, and moved to Missezoula Lake near Princeton. After several years, they returned to make Coquitlam their home. A chapel service will be held on Thursday, July 5th at Burkeview Chapel 1340 Dominion Ave. Port Coquitlam at 2:00pm, reception to follow. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Belvedere Care Facility and the emergency room staff of Royal Columbia Hospital for her care. Flowers are gratefully declined; however donations in Pat's memory may be made to The Alzheimer Society of BC or a charity of their choice
