HARWOOD, Elton D.
November 3, 1926 - January 18, 2013
Elton passed away at Langley Lodge on January 18, 2013 at age 86 years. He was predeceased by his wife Maureen, sisters Ila Bryde and Myrna Cruickshank, and granddaughter Jennifer Johnston. Survived by his five daughters Judy (Artie), Wendy, Linda (John), Barbara (George), Joan and their mother Ruby Harwood. Also survived by his five stepdaughters, Colleen (Barry), Sharon (Zev), Susan (Don), Alana (Rod) and Judy (Joe), 16 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren. Elton was born in Penzance, Saskatchewan to James and Florence Harwood. As a young man, Elton moved to Vancouver and started a roofing company. Dad enjoyed hockey, hunting, fishing and coaching baseball. He was very proud of his volunteer involvement with the Burnaby Lions and the Junior Chamber of Commerce. In 1962, he changed careers and bought a cattle ranch in Merritt. It was a great adventure. He returned to Burnaby and the roofing business in 1970. Dad and Maureen were active with a bridge group and golfing weekly. As a member of the Coquitlam Old Timers hockey team, Dad was very involved with the Mandai Memorial exchange and the Snoopy tournaments in Santa Rosa, California. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at First Memorial Funeral Services, 27555 31 Ave., Aldergrove, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Langley Lodge, 5451 204 St., Langley, BC, V3A 5M9, in Elton's memory.
