ELLIS, David Walter
Passed into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at the age of 93. Predeceased by his beloved wife Alice, and his brothers Ted, Hugh and John, he is survived by his daughters Victoria Hathaway and Jocelyn Bartel (Dietrich), grandchildren Rebecca and Gregory (Cecily), great-granddaughter Paisley, and brother Graham. Born and educated in Vancouver, David had a life-long vocation in church music, directing choirs and leading worship from the organ at First Presbyterian Church (Trail, BC), Fairview Presbyterian Church, and at Ryerson United Church. Later, he frequently played for services at St. John's Shaughnessy Anglican Church (now St. John's Vancouver), where he was an active member and also served as treasurer. After serving as a meteorological officer during WWII, David taught math and chemistry in Trail and Vancouver. Gaining his Chartered Accountant designation in 1957, his successful practice was distinguished by his high ethical, moral, and professional standards. Always committed to education, David sat on the North Vancouver school board for many years, serving as chairman from 1970-71. A special delight of David's was the family cottage at Buccaneer Bay, where he also served as treasurer of the association. In everything he did, David exhibited his profound and abiding love of God, and the desire to be Christ-like in all his living and being. A Memorial Service will be held at Kerrisdale Presbyterian Church (2733 West 41st Avenue) on Thursday, August 28, at 2 p.m. Donations in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Canadian Bible Society (http:/ /www.biblesociety.ca/).
