BATCHELLER _ Derek. Died peacefully on March 6, 2006 with his family at his side. Derek is survived by his wife Gwen, daughters Barbara (Allan) Baydala, Jane, Sharon (Tony) and Lise (Mike) and son Greg (Anna-Karen); grandchildren Alex, Matthew, Niklas, Nils, Lisa, Quin, Coleman, Rowen and Hank; sister Eleanor (Neil) Duncan, brothers Alan (Peggy) and John (Karen). Predeceased by his sister Janet Malmberg. Derek was born in Stouffeville, Ontario in 1932 and grew up in Edmonton. He attended the University of Alberta earning a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering. Derek and his brothers ran two successful paper products companies, Perma Tubes and Custom Paper. Derek and Gwen moved their family from St. Albert, Alberta to Richmond, BC in 1966. Derek was a hard working, loving husband and father. He was an inventor and a scientist and always had a theory to expound or a problem to solve. He was endlessly curious about the world and the people around him. Derek retired in 1991 and traveled the world with Gwen. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at 2 pm in the Chapel of the Richmond Funeral Home, 8420 Cambie Road, Richmond, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of BC, 300-828 West 8th Avenue, Vancouver, BC, V5Z 1E2.
