WILLIAMS, Doreen Elizabeth (Reaburn)
Doreen passed away at Lions Gate Hospital on October 30, 2012 following a brief illness and after a long and fulfilling life. She was born in Waskada, Manitoba on March 28, 1922, grew up on a farm and developed a life-long love for animals. Doreen married James (Jim) Luther Williams when she was 22, and they lived in Rosetown Saskatchewan, Moncton, New Brunswick, and Toronto, Ontario before settling in West Vancouver where she lived for over 50 years. Over that time she developed a great circle of friends, and enjoyed curling and social activities as a member of the Capilano Winter Club. Doreen loved her community, and volunteered for many organizations including Meals on Wheels. In recent years she enjoyed exercise classes at the West Van Recreation Centre. Doreen was an avid gardener and loved to feed and take care of animals, especially the squirrels, crows, and Blue Jays that stopped by her porch every day. But her energy was focused on raising a family of five children, and she was always proud of a family that had grown through new generations. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, and friend. Doreen is predeceased by her father Thomas Herbert Ogden Reaburn, mother Gertrude Reaburn, husband Jim, and grandson Gerry. She is survived by children Terry Williams, Lynne Sjoblom (Ron), Laurie McMurray (Bob), Susan Green (Ken), and Scott Williams (Sheryl), grandchildren Mai-Ann, Knox, Cory, Chris, Jenine, Colleen, Megan, Andrew, Craig and Liane as well as seven great-grandchildren. The entire family extends their gratitude to home caregivers Mulu, Zenaida, and Imelda for the love and care they provided Doreen. We also thank the nurses, doctors and staff of North Shore Hospice and Lions Gate Hospital for their care, kindness and support through Doreen's final journey. The family will be holding a private gathering at a future date. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to an organization that helps animals.
