1924 - 2012
Our dear husband, father and grandfather Doug Russell passed away on October 13. He was predeceased by daughter Janice (Stephen) and siblings Fred, Cliff, Alice, Irene and Reta. He is survived by his loving wife Marjorie, son Jeffrey (Trish), daughter Julie (Randy), grandchildren Stuart (Serena), Carolyn (Jen), Braeden and Rylan and sister Doreen Martinot. Doug was born and raised in Russell, Man., where at the age of 18 enlisted in the RCAF as a pilot. He went overseas with the newly formed Fleet Air Arm Squadron 803 and joined the British Royal Navy flying spitfires. After the war Doug came to Vancouver and attended UBC graduating in Civil Engineering 1950. He had an interesting and varied career with Swan Wooster in Vancouver and St. Catharines, Ont., Creole Petroleum in Venezuela, SNC Engineering in Montreal and his own consulting business in Vancouver. Doug and Marjorie travelled extensively and saw much of the world, but always returned to Vancouver, a city he loved. Doug joined the Rotary Club in the early 1960's and it became a very important part of his life. He was President 1995-96 and received a Paul Harris Fellow in 1992. Doug was an avid curler, gardener and especially golfer and with his three buddies spent many years golfing and socializing at Capilano. A Celebration of Doug's Life will be held at Capilano Golf & Country Club, West Vancouver, Saturday, November 3rd, 2012 at 1 p.m. for family and friends.In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of BC would be appreciated. The family would like to thank the caring staff of Inglewood Care Home.
