Edward John WILFORD

WILFORD, Edward John, MD
Dr. John Wilford passed away after a short illness on July 5, 2014 in Chilliwack at the age of 92. Dad was born November 7, 1921 and raised in Chengtu, China as a missionary kid along with his two sisters. Their parents were Edward Corry and Florence Claudia Mae (Gaviller) Wilford. Dad and Mum (Agatha) met in medical school at University of Toronto, and married December 22, 1945. Following graduation they settled in Chilliwack in 1946. Dad was a loving and generous husband and father, good friend to many, and a respected doctor retiring at the age of 80 following Mum's stroke. He committed much time to his community most notably through Rotary which he joined in 1950 serving twice as president, Sixth Chilliwack Cub and Scout Group committee as chair for many years, and long-time United Church choir member and barber shopper. Never resisting a chance to be with family and friends, Dad was loved by many. He had a positive outlook, always a humorous quip, and seemed able to talk with anyone about anything. For the past twelve years until she passed away January 18 of this year, Dad was by our Mum's side as she coped with a debilitating stroke. He is a role model for us all. With great love he is survived by his daughter, Susan (Gerry) Morrison of Kelowna, his sons, David (Kathy) of Smithers, Ted (Ann Campbell) of Nanaimo, and Rob of Vernon; grandchildren, Tim Morrison, Chris (Rachel) Morrison, Michael Wilford, Jordan Wilford, Jessica (Brody Guy) Wilford, James (Ayami) Campbell, Nikki Wilford and Max Wilford as well as his great grandsons Kieran Morrison and Carwyn Guy. John is also survived by his niece Diana (Bill), his nephew Art (Dena), his cousin Edwin (Darlene) and their families. Besides Agatha, his wife of 68 years, he is also predeceased by his grandson, Johnny Wilford and his two sisters, Muriel and Patsy. A huge thank you to the staff at 4 South at Chilliwack General Hospital. The Celebration of Dad's Life will be held Friday, August 22, at 2:30 p.m. at Chilliwack United Church, 45835 Spadina Avenue, Chilliwack. Flowers gratefully declined. Random acts of kindness in Dad's name would be appreciated. Online condolences to the John's family can be made at
